The Santa Croce Apartments are located inside a farmhouse that has been owned by our family since the last century. This place, before being renovated in 2005 on the initiative of our father, was the center of family life and agricultural activities of our farmer, who lived here, took care of the olive trees, and raised various animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Additionally, he cultivated the vegetable garden and baked bread in the wood-fired oven.
Country life was characterized by solidarity and sharing, with family and neighbors collaborating with each other. Even though our family resided in Terni, 17 km away, my father regularly visited the farmhouse to oversee and advise on agricultural work. We children would spend time petting the newly born rabbits and observing the pigs, and as we grew older, we also participated in olive harvesting, a demanding but rewarding and fun outdoor activity.
Over time, the farmhouse was abandoned by the farmer's family, who moved to a more comfortable residence in the nearby village of Ferentillo, putting the farmhouse at risk of deterioration. So, in 2005, my father decided to restore the farmhouse, transforming it into a complex of seven apartments with separate entrances, one of which is occupied by our friend Letizia, while the others are offered for rent to those seeking a refuge in nature, eager to discover Umbria and live an authentic, tranquil, and relaxing experience.
