The birth of the town is due to the arrival of the Muslims in Sicily in 827. Testimony of this can be admired in the buildings, churches, theaters, and convents belonging to different artistic styles. However, before this period, the arrival of the Elimi and the Sicani was already seen in the area, as attested by some findings in the archaeological area of Monte Adranone, where numerous archaeological excavations have brought to light valuable historical artifacts collected in the municipal museum.
In the surrounding mountains of the town, there are forest areas used as natural reserves, with access to equipped areas to spend unforgettable days immersed in nature.
Downstream, we find an artificial lake, Lake Arancio, which a few years ago was the venue for world water skiing championships.
The lush vegetation dominates the landscape, with numerous vineyards contributing to the production of excellent wine exported worldwide.
The geographical location of the town is very favorable. Santa Margherita Belice, the city of the Gattopardo, is about 10 km away. The seaside resort of Portopalo di Menfi, awarded several times with the blue flag, can be reached in about 20 km. The city of Sciacca, famous for its spas, ceramics, and carnival, is about 25 km away, and the valley of the temples of Selinunte is about 25 km away. The Falcone and Borsellino airport in Palermo can be reached in 70 km, while the valley of the temples of Agrigento is about 80 km away.
Sambuca di Sicilia is well connected by public transport to the surrounding areas.
It is an ideal destination to spend your holidays in peace, typical of small towns.
