The B&B La Casa del Gelso is located in the peaceful town of Acquafredda di Maratea, just a few kilometers from the historic center. Maratea, with its thirty kilometers of splendid coastline, is the only part of Basilicata that overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea. A sea with clear waters, coves with pebble beaches, steep slopes covered with Mediterranean vegetation, the quality of hospitality and the innate sense of hospitality of its inhabitants make Maratea an increasingly popular and appreciated destination for travelers from all over the world. The Maratea territory is divided between coastal and mountainous hamlets, each of which has its own identity often very different from the others. Acquafredda is the northernmost hamlet and owes its name to the natural source of fresh and cold water that still flows on one of its beaches: "Spiaggia Porticello". Located in a splendid natural corner, this small beach overlooks a small bay, hence the name by which it is known. It is historically known as the beach where the patriot Costabile Carducci landed on 4/07/1848. On the cliff behind the beach is the Grotta del Dragone, a large natural cavity that during the rainy season gives rise to a magnificent spectacle. Guests of the B&B La Casa del Gelso can reach the Porticello beach in just a few minutes on foot, through a staircase. Easily accessible by car in just 5 minutes are the beaches of Luppa and Anginarra, which are two of the largest in the area, separated from each other by a lush chain of rocks.
